Website security

When can a website be considered secure? Is there a secure website and can one be protected at all against undesired access?
Hacking is now part of everyday life, unfortunately. Security against interception is as important as protecting your data against modification. What possibilities and technologies are there to make your website secure? Let us show you!

Is your website consultable under http://my-unsecure-website.ch or via https://my-website-is-secure.ch? This, along with the green lock in the URL, shows you whether your website has a security certificate. A secure website possesses such a security certificate (SSL) and permits unlimited access to your website. If this SSL is lacking, your website will be classed as a security risk and certain persons will not be able to access the site. This has various consequences:

You lose potential customers

Because they do not want to access an unsecure website and therefore might turn to a competitor to buy the service or product they want.

Your reputation will suffer

A website that is classed as unsecure will be seen as untrustworthy – a fact that can have negative consequences for you.

It will affect your search machine ranking

Google does not index websites without a corresponding security certificate as well and rates this as fault. It will thus be more difficult for you to achieve a good google ranking.

How and where can a security certificate be obtained?
This can be performed by the web hosting. Read more on the subject here: a handle on SSL certificates – control over Private Key und Co.

HSTS HTTP Strict Transport Security
HSTS makes it possible to prevent anyone making users think that the server can only be reached through unencrypted access. To this purpose, the client is informed, upon visiting the site, that they should always expect an encrypted connection on further visits. The website operator can be added directly to the HSTS lists of common browsers. This protects even the first consultation of the website.

DNSSEC
DNSSEC makes it possible to confirm the authenticity of a name resolution. A chain of trust is built – based on the Domain Name Registrar. This is important in order to prevent redirection to another IP. Other protection mechanisms such as DKMI or SPF (antispam) are also based on the DNS entries.
